ACUTOUCH AND SHIATSU

Shiatsu:

Shiatsu is practiced in China at least for the last 2000 years. The gist of Shiatsu is use of massage, acupuncture, change of diet and way of life. Shiatsu is also based on the life force energy “Chi” running throughout the body and flows via channels known as meridians. Shiatsu believes that this life force energy, “Chi” exists throughout the Universe and all living beings need it for sustenance.

As in Acupuncture, in Shiatsu too, there are a few pressure points or meridians that are identified with particular body organs. These pressure points are known as “tsubos” in Shiatsu. It believes in holistic healing i.e., treating the whole person and not the individual parts. The body is apportioned into (a) the head center (b) the heart center, and, (c) the abdominal center. Shiatsu gives prominence to the abdominal center, which is called “hara”. The Shiatsu practitioners specify a breathing exercise, which concentrates on abdominal breathing. This exercise not only allows you to inhale quite a good quantity of oxygen, but also, the universal life force energy “Chi” with it.

All body organs are known in Shiatsu to have a dual function. The “Zang” organs do storage energy and the “fu” organs generate energy from sustenance and drink besides it controls excretions. The organs are listed in pairs and each “zang” is matched with “fu”. The system believes in ‘auras’, ‘chakras’, the ‘yin’ and the ‘yang’, the ‘meridians’ and ‘chi’.

By touching the meridian points for a stipulated time, acutouch activates the energy flow. In Shiatsu, in addition to this meridian touching, there are massage, exercises, change of diet, and if need be, change of lifestyle.
